Melancholy

Sadness stumbled
Through the rain.
Vision obscured by the droplets
Falling thick and fast;
Heavy weights of water,
Occluding clouds of grey haze,
As the rain melted with her own tears.
Her face paled by the moonlight -
A wandering ghost.
Purposeless.
For she had lost her heart
Somewhere along the way,
And its place
Beating just the same
Was a hollow cove
Unlit, unstirred.
Stagnant pool of water
With throbs that shook the ground
And on its pitch black floor,
Like deep sea dwellers
Lay the drowned love
Of winters gone by.
